In decades in the workforce, I was only once in a full-fledged kakistocracy, and it was astonishingly traumatic for how short a time I was there. (I've been in plenty of places where the one guy on top was some level of inept, but that isn't the same as a kakistocracy, and most of those were OK places to work most of the time.)

I should have left before I got fired, but it all worked out for me in the long run.

Organizations that are broken in this way will never heal and will grind up every decent person who enters them.
