"Acceptance" of racism implies that the racism just drifted into town and everyone said, "Live and let live."

Americans don't just accept racism - a lot of them are racists.

Oh, I have a joke I told Doug after this, partly to see his reaction:

Q: What's twelve inches long, black, and hangs in front of an asshole?

A: A policeman's tie.

Doug bristled when I told him the first half, but it was worth it for his response to the punchline.
