Actually 40,000 deaths, as of when you wrote the article. “Only xx,000 deaths” doesn’t present a great picture of you as a human, FYI.
Also, your whole argument is based on the tests being randomly administered, when this is absolutely not the case. Tests are so rare in some parts of the US as of right now that even people who almost certainly have COVID-19 can’t get them in some places.
As far as I know, there is no random testing being doing on any sort of wide scale in the US. Nearly all COVID tests in the US are given to people who are suspected of having the disease, so the 20% number is not a meaningful measure of the spread of the disease in the general population.
