Ah, this is obviously some strange use of the word “will” that I wasn’t previously aware of.

There’s an underlying assumption here — which is that the fastest propulsion method is not limited by physics and engineering, but simply human ingenuity, and that human travel speeds will continue to increase. Considering that the record for human speed was set fifty years ago, there’s really little evidence of this.

And bringing in ideas that involve breaking conservation laws that we’ve known for centuries, like “a method that doesn’t require propulsion at all,” is simply invoking magic.

I love science fiction, but I don’t make the mistake of believing it’s a future history.
