Also, the actual story of Turing’s arrest is not as simple as “being arrested for homosexual activity”. The short story is that his stereo was stolen by a partner of his, and Turing went into the police station to complain. When the officer in charge asked what Turing’s relationship was to the thief, Turing told him, in apparently very explicit terms.

The officer did not immediately write this down — the Turing book states he knew who Turing was and implied he was a fan — and cautioned Turing that there might be consequences if this ended up in the legal record. Turing insisted, and the rest is sad history.

Totally unfair of course. I’m not trying to justify this injustice, but simply to say that it wasn’t malice on any individuals part.
