…es LED bulbs face in real-world use. Heat, for example, can dramatically shorten a bulb’s lifespan. Using an LED bulb in a poorly designed — or simply old — fixture that doesn’t properly dissipate heat could kill a 90-year bulb in a few years. If sunlight hits an LED bulb, that can also shorten its life.

An older fixture that successfully held incandescent bulbs would dissipate 10x as much heat as the comparable LED bulb would give off.
The issue might be rather that a lot of this LED gear is only specified to about 100ºF and now a lot of places are having ambient temperatures greater than this.
