As a poet, you shouldn't be so scared of repetition. :-D
Political advocacy writing is somewhere between speech writing and regular expository text. Controlled use of repetition leads to a more rhythmic, more dramatic impact. The idea is to inflame people to action, not just to inform!
"Have you forgotten that once we were brought here, we were robbed of our name, robbed of our language. We lost our religion, our culture, our God... And many of us, by the way we act, we even lost our minds."
You could cut that last paragraph down to half its size, but it would lose all impact. Yes, this is spoken, but "political advocacy writing" again.
