As we approach the end of the world, the excuse, "I didn't choose to do this immoral thing, I was following someone else's suggestion," has run dry. (It wasn't even any good when it was "following orders".)

Either pilot could have chosen to cooperate with the authorities and they didn't.

Your lawyer example isn't a great one, because if you're in a car crash, you call your lawyer and they advise you to flee to avoid getting the breathalyzer, you're going to jail, and the lawyer will get disbarred.

Hey, I'm not grumpy at you, you didn't do it!
