Being persecuted based on completely fabricated information is not the same thing at all as people feeling disgust for psychopathic criminals who bragged about their crimes.

In particular, I tell you now that I will never, ever, ever, ever go to see a movie that had any outspoken Trump supporter in it. I suspect there are easily a hundred million Americans who feel likewise.

The argument seems to be this: "I suffered based on made-up crimes, so other people should not suffer for their real crimes".
