Briton here, one luckily living in Amsterdam (the Dutch aren't being that much smarter though).
Yes, this is a disaster. Yes, it was completely avoidable. No, we haven't seen the worst of the consequences yet. Yes, it was done entirely for political reasons, and irrational ones at that.
But you aren't seeing the bright side here, come on!: what a nice change it is to see us genociding ourselves for once, and not people of color. I mean, it was getting boring, mowing down these swaths of dark-skinned strangers - now we can wipe out people of pallor, maybe even people of pallor who are our personal pals.
I'm not seeing this "human race" thing working out very well, to be honest - it's starting to feel less Usain Bolt and rather more like the last act of Hamlet around here. And everyone had a hand in this clusterfuck of massive proportions, except maybe the poor, who being poor, really had little say in the matter - but I'm confident they too would have made the same bad decisions given the change, because...
But we few, we happy few, we band of Bozo-Saxons - we can justifiably say that we led the charge over the cliff and into oblivion. Of course, the very nature of this achievement means that no one will remember it in the long run, but we takes what we can gets.
Thanks for your usual strong work.
I think I already made this offer, but if you're ever in Amsterdam, let us purchase you refreshing beverages or tasty food.
