Bullshit.

It was never "all of a sudden". Everyone loved the first books. My uncle turned me on to them (I was in my 40s!), I read them.

Each next book was longer, duller, and less interesting than the previous one. I did somehow slog my way through the last one, and I remember nothing about it except the last chapter.

By the end, everyone I knew was sick of Harry Potter. And that was before any political thing.

I should add that the "hereditary superman" premise of the book is pretty awful in hindsight.

The reason why I continue to love Lord of the Rings is that Frodo and the hobbits in general have really no special powers at all except staying out of the way. Frodo is just a regular guy who wins the day for everyone simply by not giving up no matter how dark things are.

When the King tells everyone to bow down to Frodo, it makes me cry every time.
