But cabs already existed for these purposes before Uber, without "disrupting" anything.

I lived in very sketchy neighborhoods in Brooklyn for decades - and there were car services, and the prices weren't different from Ubers.

I took taxis and car services to the airport for years. Now of course I only take public transport, because I don't want the emissions on my tab.

Your resignation to the fact that large areas in the US will never have public transport is saying, "We will never deal with the climate emergency. We'll continue to live in a society dominated by cars, and the best you can hope is to convert some of the to electric."

Uber is a morally bankrupt company whose business model involves flouting the law and cheating their workers. It is not the solution to anything.
