But there aren't really very many white jokes. None of what you related were jokes, but wry and bitter observations. No one was expected to laugh.

And why aren't there any jokes? Because it's hard to make good jokes about the ruling group. Because punching up is hard.

I stopped telling any racist jokes in 1982, when I saw Gandhi, except for a few jokes aimed at white people:

Q: What's 12 inches long, black, and hangs in front of an asshole?

A: A policeman's tie.

Q: What do you call a black man flying a plane?

A: A pilot, you racist!

I told that first one to Doug Walker aka Dr Synth, a Black Communist and space rocker, unfortunately dead for over a decade, just to see his reaction. I could see him bristle at the opening, and then think about it, and give a tentative laugh at the punchline.

It was still a little too close to the bone for him, and I understood that.

So I agree with your article, but it would be a lot better with some actual racist jokes against white people - jokes that I, as a white person, could tell.
