But why would the Earth spend quadrillions of dollars to send astronauts to Andromeda when they'd get no information from them for hundreds of thousands of years?

Surely it would be better to save our own planet, which is in danger right now, than start incredibly expensive projects that take hundreds of thousands of years and do not benefit a single person on Earth?
