Come on, that's a silly argument. Yes, learning new things of any type is always good, but life is finite. We don't learn PL/I or punch cards anymore because they aren't useful.

Don't get me wrong, I am strongly in favor of programmers learning text-based editors like emacs and vim, but because they are very useful, not because "learning anything is good".
