“Comforted him”? What?!

“My workers are suffering much more than I do, because I chose to fire them with nothing or nearly nothing, and the thought of their struggle comforts me.” What decent human gets “comfort” from the suffering of others?

Gosh, I’m getting really sick and tired of hearing about the poor, poor rich people.
