Or NATO and Russia should engage in a direct war? Both possess nuclear weapons and Russia has talked repeatedly about using them.

I get the impression that you seem to think that NATO and Ukraine are to blame for Russia unilaterally invading Ukraine. Is this so? You seem so rational and compassionate generally it's hard to believe you would have such evil idea, but smart people do warp.
