Consumption is like an addiction for Americans. If they can't consume in their usual ways, they'll come up with something else.

A rational person would see extreme uncertainty on the horizon and very dark days ahead - perhaps the darkest in the history of America - and be planning for that, not getting crappy kiddy pools that wouldn't last two years even if they were ever delivered.
