Damn right. I'm lefty-leftist, very much concerned with what words I use, and yet I got told very impolitely last week that "transwoman" without the space was a "slur".

I wanted to say, "No one told me", and "Where is this written down?" and "I'm learning Dutch so I have a tendency to do that in English words in general." However, saying nothing was the choice I eventually made.

It is my belief that the American left is so rigid and humorless on minutia because they know in their hearts that the last two generations have been one defeat after another for them - and "us", the world.

I woke up this morning with "Love March" from Woodstock in my head — such a beautiful song! — and as I was making coffee, I wondered to myself, how would the bright hopeful 1960s faces react if they knew what 2020 was like?

And my answer was immediate: rage, disappointment and despair.

So no wonder people get bent out of shape by emoji or missing spaces.
