Everything you say is completely true to the best of my knowledge (as a layman).
However, by far the easiest way to consume sugar is soft drinks.
One can of Coke™ has 39 grams of sugar, and worse, it's high-fructose corn syrup in the US - the crack of sugars.
I love sugar, but I cut out soft drinks 30 years ago or more. It helped me reset my sweetness palette and I'm still in good shape. I tried some candies I ate freely when I was young recently, and they were inedibly sweet for me today.
"Don't drink your calories." If you need to cut down your sugar consumption, like most humans, the easiest and fastest way to start is just to drop all sodas overnight.
