The gist was this: you should look for a more *cosmopolitan* group of friends, exactly the right word, and avant-garde/experimental/underground music circles have for most of my life provided such circles of fascinating, not color-blind but color-warm people.

Secondarily, radical or leftist or anarchist groups, but those are more emotionally difficult... it might be dipping into them though because you'd meet a lot of people who found a rightfully angry Muslim person admirable and not frightening.

London, and England in general, are hotbeds for both of these, once the plague has passed.
