Gosh, I remember having this same discussion right before I graduated! We were walking down a stairwell and saying, "Will there even be jobs for us when we get out of here, because of CASE (Computer-Aided Software Engineering)?"

That was around 1983. So far I haven't seen the impact.

People aren't actually very good at reasoning visually, it turns out. We do our reasoning in words and text, particularly when it comes to logic and arithmetic.
