Gosh, if most people who flew the Confederate flag were as rational and compassionate as you, I don't think people would even care about the flag.

I myself have converted exactly two people in my life away from political madness - at least that I know of. That's very very poor results for decades of trying to calmly reason with people.

I had to dump my last conservative friend when she started screaming at me that I was a liar because I told her that someone I'd known casually for a long time knew some of the kids who had died in Sandy Hook. I didn't even know I was treading on dangerous territory or I might not have said it.

Which is more likely? That some crazy killed a dozen kids, or that literally thousands of people organized to create an entirely fictitious school and then pretend that kids were killed in it? She believed the second story, it turned out...
