It's hard to write about famous psycho geniuses without coming off either as "true crime" or "apologist for crime", but you seem to have hit that sweet spot.
I have always tried to keep up with pop hits, even though my interests tend to avant-garde and experiment, but I have to say that it's gotten harder and harder as music on the radio has gotten more samey and bland.
In particular, it used to be that pop hits showcased virtuoso performances by individual musicians, and that's almost entirely gone. Listening to people talk really fast about themselves over repetitive, highly-produced beats long ago lost its novelty value.
Mind you, I'm listening to this right now, full of human performance, but this will never be a pop hit:
