As for "elevating people", many, many Christians consider non-Christians profoundly evil people and have no compunctions about saying it.

For example, President George H.W. Bush said, "No, I don't know that Atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

And quotes about Muslims from Christians are even more horrible.

I mean, a fundamental teaching of Christianity is that most humans go to Hell where they are tortured for eternity, whereas a few go to Heaven and get eternal life in bliss! How is that not "elevating one person over another"?
