Hear, hear!

To be honest, I much prefer emacs, but every developer should learn how to use a terminal-based editor, because it's a fundamental skill, and vi and emacs are available on absolutely every platform.

I've been using emacs for almost 40 years now. I often work in IDEs for specific projects, but when I go to open an editor to do "general work", it's the one.

You won't ever regret learning a terminal editor. (And now you know you like terminal editors, consider giving emacs a try!)
