Humans are actually extremely bad at looking at a firehose of information and finding a few errors in it, so this "just keeping an eye" thing doesn't seem as plausible to me as to you.
Overall, your picture sounds like a horrible future, because how will we live? If AIs do 90% of the work, then 90% of our jobs will be lost, and the money they used to make will go into the hands of the richest 0.1% of humanity, who own all of AI and much of the rest of the world.
I see this as a massive ripoff. I've spent much of the last twenty years contributing to open source, and instead of any payoff, they just trained their machines on my work and everyone else's, and now intend to resell that, cutting us out entirely.
