I agree with most of your article, when it comes to killing animals horribly. But that English ivy is a plant. It has no nervous system, and feels no pain. I eat plants every day with absolutely no remorse.
I once had a garden that was choked with morning glories, such that no other plant of any size could live. I spent a few days uprooting the strangling vines, so that we could grow other plants. I found it satisfying and fun, and a few months later, the garden was filled with other plants, and butterflies and bees visited every day (we'd grown a lot of things to attract them). It was the right thing to do, and I was glad to have done it.
