I agree with the article in general, but as a progressive, I struggle to understand why they think there was a “gender or racial emancipation” in the Obama years.

There was one big step — gay marriage, something which Obama had nothing to do with, and indeed something which he had consistently opposed for his whole career.

Obama seemed uninterested in these issues, and spent a lot more attention on warfare, pushing fossil fuels, and forgiving government and Wall Street criminals.
