I agreed with this article and upvoted it.

But watching a Hollywood thriller is not any sort of preparation for the real world. (By the way, it isn’t “Liam Neeson’s” film — if it’s anyone’s, it’s Luc Besson’s film, as the writer and producer).

The fact that we have endless films about strangers kidnapping people — something that almost never happens in real life — and almost none about the fact that we are destroying our entire ecosystem should clue you in to the fact that the sorts of threats shown in films are almost always imaginary.

The chances of being kidnapped by Albanian smugglers in France — or any sort of human smugglers in any developed country — is incredibly tiny. You’d be much better off warning your kids about crossing the street.
