I clapped many times for your article, but your conclusion is wrong.

What people want is secure lives with dignity. A meaningful job that pays a comfortable wage is just a means to that end.

And with automation fast bearing down on us, we need to understand that a lot of these bullshit jobs are going to go away and be replaced by nothing at all.

Consider that ten million Americans alone make their living driving cars. Those jobs will be gone in twenty or thirty years, and they won't be replaced by anything.

We need to get past the idea that people need to work to live.

It's taken me some time to come around to this, but a universal basic income, a solid one that you could live modestly on in most of the country, is the only end goal if we aren't to end up a race divided with a tiny number of ultra-rich workers, and everyone else starving.
