I feel bad for you. :-/
I grew up long before the Internet. My parents restricted my TV watching, and when I was able to watch TV, I found I wasn't interested. (I was 50 before I bought my first TV!)
And yet I struggle with Internet addiction, and so does everyone I know. I have it more under control than most - I stay away from my phone, I only read hard-copy books at night, that sort of thing - but it's so easy to have half-an-hour just vanish scrolling aimlessly.
Once you realize that some of the brightest people of the last two generations have been engineering these apps to be "sticky" - which is to say, addictive - as possible, it all becomes clear.
