You read less about them because calamity did not happen and history was not made. In the United States, not even one person in ten has ever heard of the Business Plot of 1933.
History also shows that at chaotic, liminal times like this, accidents or individual efforts can have huge cascading effects for good or for evil - think Gavrilo Princip.
The future is yet unwritten. This is a pivotal moment in human history - shrugging and giving up is simply wrong.
The stakes are so huge that it is worth putting in almost any effort even if defeat is almost certain. And even if defeat is certain, mitigation is possible.
