I have a lot of trouble relating to this.

Why would I drive to an airport? That's a waste of the world's resources, and stressful.

I wouldn't drive anyone to any airport because I have never owned a car. I live in a country far from most of my friends, but we have one friend here who has driven us to things during the pandemic (and we all take it seriously, which means masks and open windows and shivering.) But here in Europe, I can just hop on a train right to the airport.

It's true that when we moved here from NYC, we had a huge number of suitcases, and my pot dealer drove me to the airport. He's a good guy!

On the other hand, at this point I am responsible for several sets of people's teeth, a septic tank in CT, and a couple of other people not being evicted, the laptop screen of some random Indonesian kid who's studying computer programming, oh, and part of a fishing boat for my friend's wife's cousin in Banda Aceh - as well as rather a lot of help with people's computer programming issues.

So I've drive the miles, so to speak. I'm not looking for a quid pro quo either - many of my friends simply don't have many resources to share.

Making friends is very very hard - particularly as an adult. The way to bond is over shared experiences, which imply shared interests.

For me, music and drugs were and are still my two biggest sources of friends. Going to concerts or playing together, getting drunk or stoned or tripping, these are the friends I have kept.

A lot of it is that psychedelic drug users and music lovers just seem to be nicer people, because they get to touch the ineffable on a regular basis and believe in "magic", though the overwhelming majority of them are physicalists (i.e. don't believe in anything other than the material world).

So once the pandemic is over, I suggest going out to see live music - things that really touch you.
