I just hate these.

In particular, the amount of time they give you is so random. After several decades, I can write code very fast. Most of these give me 90 minutes and I'm done in 30 or so.

But one of these gave me 60 minutes and had three hard coding questions to the point where I was desperately typing to the last second.

This has nothing to do with real life! Oh, I've been under the gun, but nearly always for debugging, never to get a bad answer to a tough question in twenty minutes.

And that company was a company that interviewed programmers for other companies! And the woman overseeing my exam was at least thirty years younger than me and really didn't know computer science. They did call me back to do another automated test but I didn't go on. As I said, "None of these tests test my interviewing skills, do they?"

On the other hand, the job I have now I didn't even interview for. A startup wanted to get the most senior engineer they could find who liked to write a lot of code and a bunch of people pointed at me.

And it's a great job with a really rational and well-organized company.
