I live in a temperate climate, over 50º North of the equator.
I am obliged to heat the apartment - not a house - that I live in in the winter, or I will die. I imagine my greenhouse gas footprint is about 10% of the woman's writing this article.
The idea that if I haven't reduced my greenhouse gas footprint to the point that I literally die, then I can't comment about a person who pathologically wastes gasoline for their own entertainment, is bizarre and illogical.
I've done things you wouldn't even dare to dream of doing. With no job or friends or really any connections there at all, I took all my savings in the world, $3000, and moved to New York City - where I did in fact make it, as well as a large number of friends, after working a bunch of bizarre and unsteady jobs. (This was in an earlier day when this was still somewhat possible.)
Decades later, when I realized that I no longer wanted to participate in the cruel and broken society that America had become, I did it again - this time a move to another continent, although this time I had more savings and a family.
It's been tough going and it took me almost five years before I started to make any money, but I never regret it.
Would you have the courage to uproot and start a new life? Even learn a new language to do so?
We humans need to decarbonize our society by 90% in ten years. 90% in a decade, or we face devastation, for generations to come.
With people like the writer of the original article, this goal will be out of our reach. You have to see this selfish behavior by the original poster for what it is - robbing our grandchildren's future simple for our entertainment today.
