I lived in very small spaces before, and you can put up with anything for a year, but it weighs on your mental health after a while, particularly the constant noise and intrusion from others.
In particularly, the action in NYC is not in Manhattan anymore and hasn't been for decades now.
I moved to Williamsburg in the early 90s for just that reason. And my commute was never more than 40 minutes.

I suspect that that apartment is considerably more now, but there are a lot of places just a bit further out where you can live.
