I hasten to add for non-C++ people that this is perfectly reasonable C++ code, and fairly modern to boot. There's a reason for every part of it, and if you had a high tolerance for boredom, I could explain them, and the writer goes on and does that.

But yes, it's gnarly, and we haven't even got into really deep stuff at all.

Now I write nearly always in Python, and I rarely look back.
