I now live in the Netherlands.
Here, they do not put on charming musicals where Dutch people pretend to be some of the nicer Nazis and sing charming songs about their lives.
But let's get a sense of proportion here.
Ten million Africans died during the slave trade. Their experience was quite different but easily quite as horrible as those of the smaller number of Dutch people who died in concentration camps.
Then millions more were kept as slaves for centuries by wealthy white men - bred like animals, murdered at a whim by their masters, robbed of their names, their religions, the ability to form permanent family relationships. Even the Nazis didn't get to that level of fiendishness.
And Hamilton is the story of of those wealthy white slavers - with, of course, all the genocide blackwashed away.
How can you tolerate this?!
> But he was also brilliant and laid the foundation for what I believe can be the greatest Democracy the world has[...]
This is what prompted me to write.
I lived in America for over thirty years, and yet I never got used to Americans constantly saying how much better they were than the rest of the world. Has it never occurred to you that this is simply not very polite?
Oh, the rest of the world aren't offended, because it's kind of pathetic. America actually has a pathologically bad Democracy. For example, a Wyoming resident's vote is worth 3 times that of a California resident's in Congress, three and a half times the Californian in the Presidency, and a whopping thirty times as much in the Senate.
Every couple of years, the government just shuts down for a few weeks while you guys bicker.
And don't get me started on Black disenfranchisement through voter suppression. If you aren't angry, you just aren't paying attention.
You should be enraged at Hamilton for helping to set up your cruel and now collapsing system which has systematically brutalized people of color for four hundred years, not lionizing him!
I hope this isn't too harsh, but we, the good people of the world, need to take a harder stance on the terrible criminals who have left the world in the deplorable state it is in today.
