I see it as a balance between the individual and society.

Objectively, society is more important. But if you don't look after yourself, who will?

Unfortunately, in almost every society we have on the planet today, the balance has titled very sharply toward "looking out for number one".

In practice, what this means is a God-like existence for 0.1% of the planet; unprecedented access to goods and services for the top 10%; insecurity and immiseration for everyone else; and a critically ill biosphere.
