I was in a boring meeting the other day, and I was looking at the camera while actually typing code in the other window without looking at it, and I thought, "When the heck did I get this skill, I don't remember studying this?"
I can already see the comments from people who say, "I touch type very fast, but you don't need it."
But they are wrong. You should get very good at the thing you are doing many many hours a day.
It isn't just to be faster; it isn't just to avoid annoying typos that may cost you time later; it's also to preserve your hands.
I am really not sure how many keystrokes I have typed in my life, but it is certainly in the tens of millions, and I also play music.
Doing it right is the key to not screwing up your hands.
