I was once in a very short Noël Coward play which had this little exchange:

She: I think life is for living, don’t you?

He: It’s difficult to know what else to do with it!

At the time I took this entirely as a joke but later doubts set in.

And I recently read this quote from Alan Watts:

The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves.

Separately, I wanted to add that everyone wants to die peacefully in the bosom of their family, but having your dog with you as you go is almost as good.
