Latinx and the new-to-me Chicanx or Xicanx have numerous awfulnesses.

You detail most of them, but some you missed are “not clear how to pronounce” — I read it as “Latin X” the first time I saw it; and “an affront to romance languages” — the Latina/Latino thing makes sense, but the Latinx makes none, as almost no words in any romance languages end in x except loan words from other languages.

There was no need to go “Latinx”. English already had a word for this idea — it’s simply “Latin”, without “a” or “o”.

As you point out, given that your average South American is probably significantly less “Latin” than most Europeans are, this is not great, but it’s a lot better than Latinx.

Chicano/a/x or any of its derivatives don’t fly — the word already means “Mexican-American” specifically.

“Mazewalli” is fantastic and I’d use it if I had any hope of people understanding it. That day might come, but for the moment, I’ll just use Latin in any conversations and hope for the best.
