If we as a species won't spend trillions to prevent certain and widespread devastation through climate devastation, why would we pay far more money to guard against a far less certain threat?

Me personally, I think we should reorganize our society to deal with the climate emergency and then once that's squared away, deal with asteroid collisions and the like, but my feeling is we won't do either of those things.
