I’m almost certainly older than you are. The writer’s name is “Haque”. And the fact that the US news media doesn’t cover political activism that isn’t extreme in some way or other doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist — quite the reverse.

For example, when I lived in New York City, in 2004 they had the largest political mass arrests in American history, and when they came to court over 95% of the arrests were dismissed — but this did not make the headlines. The demonstrations against the Iraq War in 2003 were very likely the largest in the history of the planet, and yet again received little news coverage, none of which pointed out the magnitude of the march.

I would also note that a lot of the people who are engaged in good works are spending much of their time helping individuals in their community because the state isn’t doing it, or dealing with issues at a local level. For example, when I lived in Williamsburg, Brooklyn back in the day, a huge amount of my time was spent fighting with the cocaine club next door. Later it turned out that my police department was on the take, something we all knew at the time.
