I’m an extremely firm believer in climate change, but this is silly.
My belief in Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) is a belief based on a great deal of evidence, and even more, the extremely strong track record of the scientific method over centuries.
The word “consensus” by itself implies belief! You’re saying that you looked at the opinions of climate scientists and well over 97% of them believed in AGW, and so you do too(and I).
Saying “AGW is not a belief any more” is equivalent to claiming,“AGW is not falsifiable” — but all scientific results are falsifiable.
Right now, in fact, we have a good estimate for the chances that AGW is false — it’s 0.0001%. Only a fool wouldn’t strongly believe that AGW is true — but it is still a belief.
Make no mistake here. Climate change is so dangerous to us a society that we should be spending all our efforts to prevent it happening even if its probability were less than 50%. The fact that its probability is 99%+ true simple makes it even more urge.
And that is the argument we should be making — not that “We are 100.00000% sure,” which is technically false to the fact, but, “We are almost certain, and the consequences would be so great that we must act immediately.”
