I’m not quite sure what your point is. Are you implying the writer is misleading us? I assure you, they are not.
Carrageenan (note correct spelling) is a very common ingredient — probably the most common substitute for gelatin. I’ve been aware of its existence since I was a teenager, decades ago — not because I cared about its health properties, but I just liked the interesting named thing that appeared in many ingredient lists.
