I'm sorry, but I cannot agree with the other compassionate responses and I'm usually the softest of touches.
The pilot killed 75 people by breaking one rule after another for his own personal entertainment, simply not paying attention to his instruments, not detecting a gross issue, and then making one bad decision after another once the problem had emerged. He was incompetent, he was arrogant, and he flouted the rules - an unholy trinity.
If his two kids had not been there, and he made some other deliberate malfeasance and brought the plane down, he would be thought of as a monster.
It makes it worse that he wiped out nearly all of his family doing this, not better.
