In English, it is said, "There are none so blind as those who will not see."

We have an American acquaintance who moved to Portugal. She doesn't speak the language, nor does she have ties there - her only reason is because it's cheap.

One of the first things we saw from her was a post, enraged, that her coworking space was closed on a religious holiday. I injured my eyes from rolling them too hard.

As you know, we fled the US for the Netherlands, a place I had a few ties to, but it's pretty expensive, and I'm not sure we'll be able to stay. We will soon be EU citizens (for me, an EU citizen again, thanks Brexit!), so who knows?

I would imagine France would be a better haven, because my French is much better than my other languages, but I already can understand songs in Portuguese from the French and the A2 Spanish and the rusty A1 Italian. Moving somewhere where you aren't at least A2 in the language is simply selfish.

Blah blah blah. Your usual fascinating article, keep up the good work.
