They’re reducing the role of “party elites” because in 2016 “party elites” ran everything and their candidate somehow managed to lose to a complete buffon, managed to lose to literally the most hated presidential candidate in history?

Now I’m wondering — is your article a parody? Your first paragraph says, essentially, “If you’re concerned about democracy, then you should believe that The People should have less say in the final candidate.”

No one would really say that — would they? Is this going to lead me on for a laugh?
